The class is designed to better familiarize music students with common orchestral and band instruments in order to provide a basis of knowledge for more effective composing and arranging of music for various instrumental ensembles.

This course is designed to give an overview of the history of electronic music (including representative musical compositions), a solid background understanding of its technology and terminology, and “hands on” experience with the equipment and software available in the lab.  Important components of the class will deal with MIDI, digital audio, and digital synthesis.  While not a requirement, most students in the class will have some prior experience using computers to create electronic music.

This course is designed to give you an opportunity to work independently in the MIDI Lab or with your own software and equipment to apply skills and techniques learned in previous courses (or elsewhere) toward the realization of a creative electronic music or digital audio project.
